Night Series -
Cup – Fourth Round – Lost 2-4 v Gwelup Croatia
A fifth placed was the highest NPL finish position for Armadale, in a season when long term coach John O’Reilly was replaced by Alun Vernal. They almost reached the Top Four Cup Finals for the first time in their history, missing out on the final day by just one point. The season started well with a 6-1 home win against Cockburn City, and they were in the top four mix for most of the campaign. But a dip of form mid-season saw them slip into the relegation fight and the club parted ways with O’Reilly. The appointment of Vernal and his assistant Victor Sikora galvanised the Army, and three wins late took them clear of the drop zone and to within one point of the top four.
2024
If Armadale are to improve again, they will need cover the loss of top goalscorer Chris Jackson, who parted the club at the end of last season. They have worked hard to strengthen their squad, with the additions of Charlie Fleming, Luke Collins, Lucas Cook and Hamish van Dieken to name a few, and they will once again be in the mix for the top four come the end of the season. They only beat one of the top four sides last season, so that needs to change if they are to push for the end of season finals. They were last season’s second top scorers with 52, but it’s at the other end they need to tighten up, conceding 49, but in Alun Vernals they have the man to do that.
Players In: Jayden Leader (Rockingham City), Lucas Cook (Stalybridge Celtic, UK), Igor Cvijanovic (Dianella White Eagles), Ryley Wishart-Stephens, Charlie Fleming (North Geelong Warriors, Vic), Chan Yelchan. Egide Ngendakumana (Inglewood United), Preston Gilling (Murdoch University Melville), Luke Collins (Perth SC), Hamish Van Dieken (Mandurah City)
Players Out: Billy Quinncroft, Conor Walsh, Chad Samuels, Adriano Jelenovic, Tim Berger, Ethan Levitt, Martim Galvao, Chris Jackson
Skipper: Luke Collins
Young Player to Watch: Joshua Bartler – An exciting player with the ball at his feet. Equally as good on each foot. Top prospect if he can continue learning from playing first team football.
“Excited for what will be my first full season of first team football. We have to try and break into the top four this season and the club have backed the playing group after falling just short last season. With a young squad we are sure to have some real highs and hopefully we can minimise the lows.” Armadale Head Coach Alun Vernals
BALCATTA ETNA

2023 Season Report
Cup – Quarter Final – Lost 0-1 v Floreat Athena
Balcatta Etna finished the season in seventh place on the table, but it could have been better for Glenn Grostate’s side. They started the season well with three wins out of the first four games, with three points against Inglewood United, Olympic Kingsway and in the local derby against Stirling Macedonia. But a nervy end to the season saw them go eight games without a win, which saw them plummet down the table. But a win in the final game of season against Cockburn City, with goals from top goalscorer Kotarto Yamamoto, Luke Hudson and Adam Tong secured their survival.
2024
The Grindleford Reserve club go into the second season under the tutelage of Glenn Grostate, but they will have to improve their home form, after only winning two games all season. They go into the season with a few new faces, including former Perth Glory midfielder Rostyn Griffiths, Blamo Qua Qua, Hasani Sinclair and keeper Connor Campbell, and they have kept most of last seasons squad, which is important. They are led by midfielder Jon Corness and defender Trent Kay, who were both outstanding last season and they will be looking to improve on last seasons seventh place finish.
Players In: Rostyn Griffiths, Shogo Osawa, Hasani Sinclair, Blamo Qua Qua, Jack Taylor, Liam Miller, Fanuel Dawit, Raphael Gomba
Players Out: Adam Tong, Ryan Pearson, Jack Allen, Dom Savoldelli, Carmelo Giuffre, Jack Leech, Kotaro Yamamoto
Skipper: Trent Kay
Young Player to Watch: Matt Tomassone - Matt has incredible natural ability and last season saw him progress from the 16s into the 18s where he won player of the season. They have integrated him into the first team this preseason and he is making tremendous progress. He’s in an environment of some top professionals and they are confident along with his work ethic, this should see him make strides into senior football this year.
“We’re really excited about the season ahead and feel like we have assembled a good group of players. This has to been two years in the making and we’re now at the stage where we have a team that we’ve built rather than inherited. Thats the easy part. Now it’s up to us as a squad and coaches to translate that onto the pitch and put in consistent performances throughout the season. Balcatta has been a sleeping giant for a while and there’s been a lot of hard work behind the scenes to get us in a position to attract the likes of Rostyn, Shogo, and Hasani to name but a few. You mix that experience in with the young players who have matured and are now entering their 3rd year of senior NPL football, I think we’re in good stead to have a solid season ahead.” Balcatta Etna assistant coach Malcom Tshuma

Cup – Fourth Round – Lost 2-3 v Olympic Kingsway
An end of season form slump saw Bayswater City just miss out on a Top Four Finals spot, and only two wins in their last seven games saw them end up in sixth spot. Gareth Naven’s side started the season well, but after big loss against Perth Glory in round 14, saw him replaced by Gary Williams and his assistant Stewart Moses. The results improved, including a big win at Armadale, and a seven-goal thrilling win against Italian rivals Balcatta Etna, but a loss against Floreat Athena in the penultimate round saw their season end. Gordon Smith led the way up front, while Jackson Stephens and Declan Hargreaves were outstanding in defence and midfield respectively.
2024
Bayswater missed the opportunity to play finals football last season, drawing six games at Frank Drago Reserve, the joint most in the league. On the other hand, they only lost once on home soil last season, which was the best in the competition and they will be looking to turn them draws into three points next season. They had the second worst record on the road, so Williams will be aiming to change their fortunes in 2024. The club have been busy, and the signing of Chris Jackson and Cameron Teece will improve up top, but at the back is more important, having conceded 50 goals last season, and bringing in the experienced Luke Palmateer and former wing-back Julian Kelly is huge, while import Omar Diarra will anchor the midfield.
Players In: Alex Ishida-Livings, Anthony Bafobusha (Inglewood United), Luke Palmateer (Stirling Macedonia), Julian Kelly (Perth Glory Youth), Chris Jackson (Armadale), Omar Diarra, Cameron Teece. Lewis Italiano
Players Out: Cameron Edwards, Andrew Maranta, Nic Speca, Steve Hesketh
Skipper: Gordon Smith
Young Player to Watch: The club have a number of talented, and a number of them will make a huge impact this season.
“Really looking forward to my first full season at the club. We are confident we can have a good year and look forward with anticipation to the next 22 games.” Bayswater City Head Coach Gary Williams

Cup – Winners – Beat Inglewood United 3-2 in the Final
It was a difficult 2023 for Floreat Athena, and they were in the relegation mix late in the season, but managed to avoid the drop. They won the league the previous season, but struggled for form, with injuries and players unavailability, and they finished a disappointing tenth. It had started so well, winning three of the opening four games, with victories against Olympic Kingsway, Perth RedStar and Stirling Macedonia. But they ended up only winning five more games for the season. It was a different matter in the cup, the club beating Inglewood United to claim the State League Cup, and went on to represent WA in the Australia Cup round of 32, eventually losing to A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers.
2024
Floreat Athena will look to rebound in 2024, but head coach Vas Vujacic has lost a number of experienced players, the likes of Jess Fuller, Dennis Galan and Phil Arnold. He has acted quickly to fill the void, with Friday Zico’s and Cherno Bah to name a few coming in, while the club have been Impressed with some of the under 20’s from last season. They will need improve their home form, after only winning three games at E&D Litis Stadium. They also had the second worst goals total in the competition, with only relegated Cockburn City having worse. It is a huge season for the club, and they will be looking to show last season was just a blip.
Players In: Cherno Bah, Friday Zico (Cockburn City), Ajang Yuot, Fillipo Gioffre, Ali Mohammed
Players Out: Robert Petkov, Jesse Fuller (Fremantle City), Phil Arnold (Subiaco), Dennis Galan, Andrew Palmer
(Perth RedStar), Bayley Brown-Montgomery
Skipper: Jason Saldaris
Young Player to Watch: Mo Alzaidy – The youngster has really cemented himself in the starting 11 in the preseason, and the club are expecting big things from him this year.
“I expect this season to be as competitive as last year as all of the teams know there is no room for complacency. We have had huge changes in our squad and are embracing the new challenge that brings.” - Floreat Head Coach Vas Vujacic

Cup – Quarter Final – Lost 2-3 v Inglewood United
Fremantle City secured their place in the NPLWA for the first time after a dramatic win in the play-off final against Joondalup United. The port side finished third in Division One, but they produced a great late season surge, to beat Mandurah City in the semi-final of the play-offs before goals from Alex McLean, Enzo Marangoni and Bill Orr saw them come-from-behind to earn promotion. Only one defeat in their last six games saw them home, including two wins against Champions Western Knights. They scored 51 goals for the season, but conceded 35, which was the worst in the top four sides, something they need to fix this season.
2024
Fremantle City will play Premier League football for the first time since 1987, and the club have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in players with NPL experience. Former Perth Glory due Riley Woodcock and Cameron Edwards are excellent signings, along with former Floreat Athena pair Jesse Fuller and Rob Petkov. Head coach Matthew Sparrow goes into his second season in charge, and he has a good mix of youth and experience. After a good night series, which saw them miss out of a semifinal spot by just one point, they showed enough to say they will be really competitive this season.
Players In: Luke Radonich, Alex Silla (Perth SC), Cameron Edwards (Bayswater City), Jesse Fuller, Rob Petkov (Floreat Athena), Riley Woodcock, Dylan White, Johnny Chalmers, Taj Bingwa, Charlie Chechlacz
Players Out: Jordan Barbas, Elliot Ireland, Hamza Hina, Roberto Soares, Dean Hurley, Enzo Marangoni
Skipper: Hayden Stevens
Young Player to Watch: The club have a number of talented youngsters, and Pat Loughrey and Oli La Galia both have massive potential, it’s a big season for the club and the players, but those two will play a big part for us this year alongside every other player. They have a small squad full of quality, so each player has an important role to play.

Cup – Final – Lost 2-3 v Floret Athena
It was a season of so near but so far at Inglewood Stadium last season. Andrea Oliveira side reached the final of the Night Series and the State League Cup, losing narrowly in both. They started the season well, but it fell away and they were in a relegation fight, but they ended the season well to miss the drop, with only one defeat in their last seven games and a point on the final day saw them stay clear of the relegation playoff spot. Shubham Mokala led the line well, winning the clubs golden boot, while in his final season in football Alex Dunn was outstanding, and will be missed next season.
2024
It’s all change at Inglewood Stadium this season on and off the park. A new President and a new coach, with the experienced Taki Nicolaidis taking over the reins from Andres Oliveira, whose four-year tenure at the club came to an end, with the club moving in a different direction. The loss of skipper and keeper Alex Dunn is a huge hole to fill, but former Perth Glory youth keeper Nic Speca is a good replacement. They have also added Jeremy Tshongo, Jordan Brown and Kotaro Yamamoto, to name a few to the squad, and despite a poor night series campaign, a big win in their final fixture, showed what this team is capable off.
Players In: Nic Speca (Bayswater City), James Lindsay, Will Formston (MUMFC), Aiden Formston (MUMFC), Charlie Garnham (Cockburn City), Kotaro Yamamoto (Balcatta Etna), Elliot Ireland (Fremantle City), Jeremy Tshongo (Balcatta Etna), Jordan Brown (Sorrento), Thomas Abraham (Sorrento)

Cup – Fifth Round – Lost 1-2 v Fremantle City
Olympic Kingsway impressed in their first season back on the top flight of WA football since 1999, and David Tough’s side finished third, there best finish in the Premier League since 1980, the year they last won the title. They impressive in the night series, beating Inglewood United on penalties in the final, but it didn’t start well in the NPL for the Green Machine, losing their opening three games. But they never looked back after a first win against Armadale in round four, and they only lost five more games for the season, making the Top Four Finals, only to lose to Perth SC in the semifinal.
2024
Olympic Kingsway have been very active in the transfer market, bringing in quality to their squad, with the likes of Aryn Williams, Liam Boland, Ryan Lowry and Joe Knowles to name a few, and they are a club on the rise. It is a club with wealth of history in WA football, winning the title on two occasions, and many people are backing them to add a third in 2024. It is a new look side, and it does take time to gel, but they have continued last season’s good form in the night series this season, reaching the semifinals before being edged out by Bayswater City. Something they need to improve on is on front of goal, only scoring 35 goals, which was the worst of the top six teams, but with Knowles and Boland in the side, that will change.
Players In: Liam Boland (Avondale, Vic), Joe Knowles (Hyderabad FC, India), Aryn Willaims (Balcatta), Ryan Lowry (Perth RedStar), Adrian Sinagra (Melbourne City NPL), Joe Hobson (Bury FC, UK) Jonathon Leithead (Perth Glory), Luke Hewings (Perth Glory) Abdalla Dofash (Perth Glory)
Players Out: Ciaran Byrne (Striling Macedonia), David Keenan (Sorrento), Cian Hirrell (Moved to Melbourne) Jamie Gardiner (Joondalup United), Michael Zimarino, David Perich, Johnny Chalmers (Fremantle City) Joe Pollard (Perth SC) Mark Withers, Noah Kanzi (UWA) Coby Sutton (Perth SC)

Young Player to Watch: Jonathon Leithead - The club have been delighted with the defender in pre-season. He possesses excellent all-around skills, is highly athletic, and is thoroughly prepared for senior-level football.
“As a club, we aim to improve our performance both on and off the pitch each year. We believe we have an improved squad this season and are determined to compete on all fronts.” – Olympic Kingsway Head Coach David Tough

Cup – Fourth Round – Lost 4-5 v Fremantle City
Perth Soccer Club improved last season, finishing in fourth place, this after a disappointing ninth place finish in 2022. Head Coach Danny Hay has overseen the improvement, and the former New Zealand National coach has put his foot print on the Azzurri, the former Perth Glory defender has them hard to beat. After one defeat in the first five games, they lost the next four, conceding 16 goals, and the club made the change, with Hay coming in to replace Marc Wingell, this after Basil Lenzo was interim coach for two weeks.
2024
Perth SC have been active in the transfer market, the club bringing some experience to the club, with Jack Cawley and Ben Stroud added as their imports, while Harley Orr and Christian Belladonna return to Dorrien Gardens. The club unearthed some talented youngster last season, and coach Danny Hay wasn’t worried about playing them, which bodes well for the future. One area the club needs to improve is in defence, they conceded 40 goals, which is something Hay will need to improve, and I’m sure he and assistant coach Stuart Banks will.
Players In: Joe Pollard (Olympic Kingsway), Judd McDougall (Perth Glory NPL), Coby Sutton (Olympic Kingsway), Ben Stroud (FC Jazz, Finland), Harley Orr, Jack Cawley (Wellington Olympic, NZ), Emerson Alexis (returned from loan), Daniel Faichney (Stirling Macedonia), Neil Gillies, Matt D’Hotman (Melville United, NZ), Christian Belladonna (Jonica FC, Italy)

Cup – Did not participate
Perth Glory struggled in 2023, finishing just above the drop zone, and just missing out on the relegation play-off’s by just one point, the final round draw against Floreat Athena, keeping both sides clear. Glory brought a number of youngsters through their successful academy, with many of them playing senior football for the first time. It did show at times, but they did top the table for a while, this after beating Perth RedStar in round seven. But they only went on to win only four games after that, which included a huge 6-3 win against Bayswater in round 14, and a 5-3 win against Sorrento in round 17.
2024
It will be another new group of players for Perth Glory in 2024, but head coach John Warmsley has the confidence in his young team. There will be a sprinkle of A-League players dropping down to the NPL, but it will
be mostly the youngsters who will once again fly the flag. They showed last season that they can match the physicality of the NPL, and they were outstanding going forward, scoring 51 goals, which was the second highest in the competition. But it’s at the other end they need to tighten up on, conceding 55 goals, which was the highest in the league.

Young Player to Watch: Once again the young Perth Glory side will be brimming with talent, and many will get their first chance of first team football this season
“Pre-season, including the Night Series, was really good. There’s been a lot of player movement between the Academy and the A-League squad with so many lads getting their opportunity, which meant that we used 35 players during the Night Series. It gave loads of lads who played 18s and 20s last year the opportunity to perform and a lot of them took their chance which was really pleasing.” Perth Glory Head Coach John Walmsley

Callum Salmon’s side were crowned champions for the first time as Perth RedStar last season, and the northern suburbs club continue to shine, with Daryl Nicol leading the way bagging 26 goals to top the NPL goalscoring table. He was helped by Chok Dau, who scored 16, and as a club they scored a total of 54 goals for the season, the most in the league, while defensively they were the best in the league only conceding 26 goals. They struggled early, not winning in their two opening games, but a huge win in the City of Joondalup Derby against Sorrento kick started their season. They stumbled again mid-season, but an eight-game run without defeat at the end of the season saw them take out the title.
2024
The club have big ambitions and many people will have them as favourites again this season, and they haven’t rested on their laurels, added some quality to their already solid squad. They have brought in former Perth Glory winger Joel Chianese from Indian club Hyderabad, Floreat Athena due Dennis Galan and Andrew Palmer, and Perth Glory academy youngster Matthew George, while Bryce Bafford has also returned. The loss of Dau, Andy Higgins and Ellis Healing, who have both retired, Ryan Lowry and Riley Warland, who has signed for Perth Glory will be big losses, but not many will be betting against them going close again this season. They have started the season well, by winning the night series for the first time, beating Bayswater City in the final.
Players In: Andrew Palmer, Dennis Galan (Both Floreat Athena), Matty George (Perth Glory), Joel Chianese (Hyderabad, India), Bryce Bafford (Returns from injury), Ollie Leeming, Theo Leeming (Perth Glory)

Young Player to Watch: Matthew George – The teenage midfielder joins the club after spending six years in the Perth Glory Academy, and made his professional debut in the 2021 FFA Cup against Melbourne Victory. He is an outstanding talent and will be a perfect fit in the centre of the park at the Campus.

It was another top three finish for Stirling Macedonia, Ian Ferguson’s side finishing runners-up, three points behind the champions. They were in the title race all season, but a late season slip up, which saw them go without a win in the last four games cost them the title. Their success was built on a good defence, conceded only 29 goals the second least for the season, with keeper James Bosdet and central defenders Luke Palmateer Hristijan Jankuloski and James McGowan all outstanding. They defeated the Champions Perth RedStar twice during the season, but in the end, they struggled to find a striker who could turn their chances into goals, with midfielder Calvin Whitney top scorer, but it was another successful season for the club.
2024
Striling will look on last season as a missed opportunity, and they will hope to rectify that in 2024. They will have to do it without influential players who have left the club, such as James Bosdet, Luke Palmateer, James McGowen and Daniel Faichney, but Head Coach Ian Ferguson has acted quickly to fill the void adding Ciaran Byrne, Danny Douglas and David Stoke to name a few. Gyles Davies and Brent Quick were outstanding last season, winning the clubs fairest and best and players player of the year respectively, and the pair will again play a huge role next season, as they look to make the next step win their first title since 1995.
Players In: Ciaran Byrne (Olympic Kingsway), Danny Douglas (Perth Glory), Shade Stewart, David Stokoe (Sorrento), Hugo Snowden (Sorrento)

Western Knights proved to be most consistent side in Division One, winning the title by one point, scoring in the final minute of their final game against Joondalup United to pip Mandurah City. Adam Kostrencic went to his second season at Nash Field, and their home ground was a fortress only losing once on home soil. Alex Kretowicz returned to the club and topped the goalscoring charts, while Albert Luwi also shone up front. They also had the best defensive record in the league, conceding only 19 goals, with Adam Harris, Jake Sardelic and keeper Devon Lindemann, all outstanding.
2024
The Knights supporters have had 11 long years out of the Premier League, but the wait is over, and after a good showing in the night series, there is optimism around the club. They have added some quality to their squad, with Jesse Lazzaro, Daniel and Kristian Santich to name a few, and they have managed to hold on to the majority of their championship winning side. All clubs who are promoted are under scrutiny early, but what we saw in the night series the Knights are ready, and I’m sure Nash Field will be packed each week as they look to make an impact back in the top flight of WA football.
Players In: Sam Reilly (Perth Glory), Luke Passeretto (Stirling Macedonia), Daniel Santich (Cockburn City), Kristian Santich (Manly United), Jesse Lazzaro (Cockburn), Alex De Rocha (Perth SC), Justin Tang (Cockburn), Orhan Boric (Perth SC), Xavier Medica (Floreat)
Players Out: Alex Kretowicz, Paul Lloyd, Ryan Cox, Fionn O’Tighearnaigh, Devon Lindemann, Danijel Markovic, Giordano Sportiello, Caleb Sheedy, Diego Dupre
Skipper: Jake Sardelic
Young Player to Watch: Alex De Rocha - Has been impressive so far with his work rate and technical ability throughout the preseason.
“We have retained the majority of our squad from last year and further strengthened with some top-quality additions for our first season back in the top league. If the night series and last year’s NPL competition is anything to gauge from each team has the ability to take the points on a weekly basis. Everyone at the club has been looking forward to the season and we know we will need to be at our consistent best form to make an impact.” Western Knights Head Coach Adam Kostrencic

COCKBURN CITY
Dalmatinac Park, Spearwood
Founded: 1929 (Spearwood Rovers)
President: Mrs Heidi Lazzaro
Coach: Steven McDonald
2023: 12th relegated
Goals scored: 27
Goals conceded: 45
Top Goalscorer: Friday Zico & Jesse Lazzaro 5
The Cockerels were relegated from the NPLWA last season, ending their stay in the top flight. Their fate was sealed with only one win in their final six games, which saw them drop out of the league for the first time since 2013. The club have retained head coach Steven McDonald, but have lost a number of experienced players, the likes of Jesse Lazzaro, Daniel Santich and Brekan Baker, but the Scottish coach has been busy in the transfer market, adding Paul Lloyd, Cyril Sharrock and Jason Pottier to name a few, as the club look for a quick return. After reaching the night series quarter final, they were beaten by finalists Dianella White Eagles, shows they are on the right path, and they will be one of favourites for promotion.
Players In: Harry Lewis, Ben Pike, Jake Robinson, Ryan Cox, Jason Pottier, Henry Curtis, Paul Lloyd, Oscar Holden, Harvey Carew, Ryan Sardi, Tommy Mills, Mike Mwingira, Cyrill Sharrock, Rory Patterson, Isaiah Wingell, Oliver Palmer, Vlad Naumovski, Josh Cortes
Players Out: Jesse Lazzaro, Justin Tang, Brekan Baker, Charlie Garner, Daniel Santich, Friday Zico, Cherno Bah, John Guya, Luqman Sayeed
Skipper: Euen Grant
Young Player to Watch: The club have a number of young players that have been training and performing really well. Isaiah Wingell and Oliver Palmer who are both 15, who are both showing real maturity and footballing brains well above their years, and both have managed to get some valuable game time in the night series. Other young players are Harry Lewis, Ben Pike, Oscar Holden, Henry Curtis, Harvey Carew, Mike Mwingira all 20 years of age, all with real maturity about them that will stand the club well for hopefully very successful season ahead.
DIANELLA WHITE EAGLES
Dianella Reserve, Dianella
President: Mr Mile Savic
Coach – Angel Andres
2023: 5th
Goals scored: 44
Goals conceded: 44
Top Goalscorer: Angel Andres 18
The Eagles were the big improvers last season, and under the tutelage of player/coach Angel Andres, they finished fifth. They just missed out on a place in the playoffs, but they had themselves to blame, losing their last four games, including a final day loss at Mandurah which saw miss out be three points. The Spanish coach has brought a number of players in to the club in preseason, and they started the season well in the night series, reaching the final, eventually losing to Sorrento in the final. They will need to improve their home form if they are going to challenge again this season, after losing five games on home soil, but we’re sure they will be there or thereabout come season end.
Players In: Kevin Ashwood (Morley), Andy Keogh (North Beach), Joe Welsh (UK), Elliot Tattersall (Joondalup United), Diego Marin Dupre, Francisc Caballero, Angel Andres Jnr (Armadale), Joseph Heath (UK), Eoin Massey (Ireland), Paul Zimarino (Perth SC)
Players Out: N/A
Skipper: Kevin McEvoy
Young Player to Watch: N/A
GOSNELLS CITY
Walter Padbury Reserve, Thornlie
President: Mr Ossie Pereira
Coach: Peter Allen
2023: 8th
Goals scored: 36
Goals conceded: 45
Top Goalscorer: Brice Rae 9
The Walter Padbury Reserve club finished a credible eighth on the table in their first season back in Division One since 2017, and head coach Peter Allen will be looking to build on that in 2024. Goals were a problems last season, only scoring 36, which was the least in the top eight, and he has looked to rectify this by bringing James Burns and Wade Farmer to name a few. They reached the night series quarterfinal, losing to Joondalup United, but the coach and his assistant Alan Dunlop, have seen plenty of positives. They have kept most of last season’s squad, which is a positive, but on their day, they can match it with most teams, but do they have the depth to challenge, only time will tell.
Players In: Wade Farmer, Duncan Lennon-Black, Jack Coslett-Greene, Darren Francis, Shawn Peppin, Jason Peppin, Deng Dut, Luqman Sayed, James Burns
Players Out: Jack Kiama
Skipper: Scott Pereira
Young Player to Watch: Brice Rae – The striker broke through from Reserves last season and got them the goals that kept clear of the drop zone. The club are hoping he can kick on and score goals this season to push us up the table
GWELUP CROATIA
Croatian Sporting Club, Gwelup
President: Mr Jure Denona
Coach: Ryan Cantello
2023: 6th
Goals scored: 37
Goals conceded: 38
Top Goalscorer – Jacob Williamson 12
After a sixth placed finish last season, Gwelup Croatia will be looking for an improvement in 2024. The club have parted ways with coach Trim Morgan, with Ryan Cantello taking over this season. They did end last season well, only losing two of the last seven games, but they will need to improve in front of goal, after only scoring 37 goals last season, which was the worst in the top seven teams. The new coach has been busy in the transfer market, bring in a number of experienced players, the likes of James Harmer, Danijel Markovic and Jeremie Mba. The club were last in the NPLWA two seasons ago, and they are keen for a return, but they need to improve in number of areas to do that, but if they click, they will surprise a few teams.
Players In: Danijel Markovic (Western Knights), Reece Kral (Goole AFC, England), Shaun Doherty (Greencastle FC, Republic of Ireland), Jeremie Mba (Perth SC), Moses Macauley (Forrestfield United), Miklos Imre (Prestatyn Town FC, Wales), Pierre Barilly (Commonwealth Cardinals FC, USA), Callum Malanaphy (West Hagley FC, England), James Harmer (Joondalup United).
Players Out: Charles Chechlacz (Fremantle City), Loic Anga (Joondalup United), Jacob Williamson (United Kingdom), Ajang Yuot (Floreat Athena), Shane Hulgraine (Kingsley-Westside), Roy McKain, Andrew Scaldaferro, Jack Lavis, John Lahai, Lucas Sassanelli, Lewis Robinson, Jamie Burns, Tyron Pottier (all released).
Skipper: Paul Grant
Young Player to Watch: Ryan Johnson - The 18-year-old has risen from the 18s through the Reserves and to the First Team super quickly, even scoring his first senior goal in a 3-1 away win at Fremantle City last season. Look out for his flair on the wing as he is destined for more game time in 2024.
JOONDALUP UNITED
Pentanet Stadium, Arena Joondalup
President: Mr Ghaz Ramli
Coach: Nick Jennings
2023: 4th
Goals scored: 45
Goals conceded: 34
Top Goalscorer: Jay Lang 5
It was a heartbreaking end to the season for Joondalup United, losing in last season’s playoff final against Fremantle City, after leading till late in the game. But head coach Nick Jennings has moved on, as the club look for a return to the NPLWA for the first time since 2018. The northern suburbs club will play at their new home, Pentanet Stadium, Arena Joondalup in 2024, and have added a number of players to their already strong squad, with Billy Quinncroft, Charlie Breen and Jamie Gardiner to name a few. This season started well, reaching the night series semifinal, before losing on penalties to eventual winners Sorrento. They did struggle on home soil in 2022, but turned that around last season, and if they can keep that going, they will be amongst the challengers again.
Players In: Tyler Holden, Danny O’Shea (Quinns), Jamie Gardiner (Olympic Kingsway) Billy Quinncroft, Charlie Breen, George McIlroy (UK), Emmanuel Kankpeyeng, Deng Mawien (Jaguars FC)
Players Out: James Harmer (Gwelup Croatia), Gary Hill, Adam Buckley and Shaun Kilkelly all retired, Elliot Tattersall (Dianella White Eagles), Vasco Da Silva, Ben Johns, Vlad Naumovski (Cockburn)
Skipper: Jay Lang
Young Player to Watch: Joel Sollitt – The striker is still only 21 despite, four years in first team squad. He has had his struggles with injury and fitness, he just needs a change of luck in 2024
KINGSLEY WESTSIDE
Chichester Park, Woodvale
President: Mr Christopher Brady
Coach: Steven Dimitrovich
2023: 1st - Division Two Champions
Goals scored: 63
Goals conceded: 27
Top Goalscorer: Luke Salmon 17
Kingsley Westside will play in the State League Division One for the first time in their history, after winning the Division two title last season. The club have only been in the state league since 2020, after their merger, and under the tutelage of Steven Dimitrovich the club have not looked back. They won the league by seven points, only losing four games all season, and scoring 63 goals, which was the most for the season. They have lost last season top goalscorer Luke Salmon, but Jon Hulme, Paul Stewart and Luke Doyle will fill the void, while new signings Chad Samuels and Callum Traynor will also chip in. The night series didn’t go quite to plan, only winning the one game, but they will cause a few problems in 2024.
Players In: Callum Trayner, Aston Montgomery, Shane Hulgraine , Chad Samuels, Mason Stickells, Joel Gillespie, Niall McKeon, Ryder Leasor.
Players Out: Warren Wadawu, Luke Salmon, Bailey Salmon
Skipper: Adam O’Neill with vice captains Nicholas Koefler and Alex Galipo
Young Player to Watch: Chad Samuels – He has come to us from Armadale and from the moment he trained at the club he showed a flair and an eye for a defence splitting pass that they hope will serve them well this year especially in the final third. He has a great work ethic both on the ball and off the ball which the club believe may be a handful this year for teams.
MANDURAH CITY
Poolmart Stadium, Halls Head, Mandurah
President: Mr Gary Byrne
Coach: Jon Baird
2023: 2nd
Goals scored: 61
Goals conceded: 22
Top Goalscorer: Joe O’Brien 16
Mandurah City just missed out on promotion to the NPL in the final game of the season. They were in the promotion spot, going into the last minute of the season, before Western Knights scored late in their game to snatch it away from them. They were then beaten in the playoffs by Fremantle City, so they need to re-group in 2024, and head coach John Baird has wasted no time in strengthening his squad, after losing some quality in the offseason, bringing in Scottish imports Dylan McKenzie, Charlie Parry, Liam Coots and Scott Davidson to replace Joey O’Brien, Murray Macintosh and Hamish van Dieken to name a few. Their home ground was a fortress last season, only losing once, and they were also the top scorers in the league, so I’m sure the Dolphins will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.
Players In: Liam Cotts, Dylan McKenzie, Charlie Perry, Jamie Adam, Scotti Davidson, Martim Galvao
Players Out: Joey O’Brien, Hamish Van Dieken, Sam Byrne, Brad Sprout, James Paylor, James Oldfield, Lydon Hodgkiss, Murray Macintosh, Reece Allan, Andrew Murray
Skipper: Harry Collins
Young Player to Watch: – The club have unearthed a number of talented youngsters, but two to watch are Jordy Callaghan and Liam Bonner
MURDOCH UNIVERSITY MELVILLE
Besteam Stadium, Murdoch University Grounds, Murdoch
President: Mr Brian Raeburn
Coach: Marc Anthony
2023: 7th
Goals scored: 46
Goals conceded: 54
Top Goalscorer: Feisal Zaw 10
It’s all change at Murdoch University Melville, with Marc Anthony taking over as head coach from Taki Nicolaidis. The experienced Scotsman, along with his assistant Cathal Lennon have overseen a huge turnover of players, but he has added quality, the likes of Ethan Levitt, Alan Carroll and Payl McCormac to name a few. A seventh placed finish last season was disappointing, their worst finish since the two clubs merged in 2018. Skipper Patrick Sara was outstanding last season, while top goalscorer Feisal Zaw wasn’t far behind him, and they were good going forward, but they need to tighten up at the back after conceding 54 goals, which was the highest in the league.
Players In: Paul Leask, Jake Maley-Orr, Ismael Dawson, Alan Carroll, Harry Clisby, Paul McCormack, Ethan Levitt, Adrian Ciampini
Players Out: Taj Bingwa, Aiden Formston, William Formston
Skipper: Patrick Sara
Young Player to Watch: Jack Steele – The youngster is progressing well from reserves and could make a good impression in the first team if he keeps working hard.
ROCKINGHAM CITY
Lark Hill Sportsplex, Port Kennedy
President: Mrs Karen Banks
Coach: Rob Crerar
2023: 9th
Goals scored: 30
Goals conceded: 47
Top Goalscorer: Jayden Leader & Ruben Joseph 6
After relegation from the NPL in 2021, Rockingham City have struggled, and last season’s ninth placed finish was disappointing, and the resignation of coaches Kris Donnell and Darren Donnachie, wasn’t what they needed. But the club have acted quickly to fill the void, by bringing in experienced coach Rob Crerar for 2024. He will look for a response this season, and he has added a number of players to their squad, the likes of Christos Vaenas, Declan Collins from MUMFC, while picking up keeper Alex Radonich from Canning. The loss of top goalscorer Jayden Leader and Ruben Joseph is a blow, but they have signed players to cover that loss. The club’s supporters will be looking for an improvement in 2024, and with Crerar at the helm, we think that might happen.
Players In: Alex Radonich (Canning), Declan Collins (MUMFC), Jack Murray, Jacob Forsyth (Bayswater), Cory McNelis (Bayswater), Dylan Rogers, Christos Vaenas (MUMFC), Shane Boyle, Nathan Ng (MUMFC), Neal Beveridge (Kwinana), Silas Besci, Kieran Shail
Players Out: Ollie McGhee, Cyril Sharrock, Ruben Joseph, Jayden Leader
Skipper: Max Snelson
Young Player to Watch: N/A
SORRENTO
Percy Doyle Reserve, Duncraig
President: Nico Hoyle
Coach: Steven McGarry
2023: 11th - Relegated in playoffs
Goals scored: 27
Goals conceded: – 45
Top Goalscorer - Gustavo Giron Marulanda 11
The Gulls lost their place in the NPLWA for the first time since 1988, after a late season slump, winning only two games of the last seven, including a heavy defeat in the final game of the season against Armadale, which saw them drop into the relegation playoff spot, and they were beaten by Joondalup United in the first playoff. Head Coach Steven McGarry has kept a number of last season’s squad, but added some experienced, including former Leeds United midfielder Neil Kilkenny, who is also assistant coach. He has also brought in keeper David Keenan, James McGowan, Luke Salmon and Hamza Hina to name a few. They are many pundits’ favourites for a quick return to the NPL, and a good showing in the night series shows they are on the right track.
Players In: David Keenan (Olympic Kingsway), James McGowan (Stirling Macedonia), Luke Salmon (Kingsley), Neil Kilkenny, Hamza Hena (Fremantle), Michael McDougall
Players Out: Gustavo Giron Marulanda, Patrick Hughes, Gustavo Catarcione, Scott Witschge, David Stoke, Joe Tweats, Hugo Snowden
Skipper: Dean Cummings
Young Player to Watch: Clay Gibbs – The youngster has absolutely excelled last year, and has continued in preseason this year.
SUBIACO AFC
Rosalie Park, Subiaco
President: Mr Drew Palmer
Coach: Marc Wingell
2023: 11th
Goals scored: 36
Goals conceded: 50
Top Goalscorer: Gavin Knight 11
It was a disappointing season for Subiaco AFC, finishing in the relegation playoff spot, after only winning five games all season. But in the playoffs, they fought hard to beat Swan United and Curtin University in the final, to keep their place in Division One. Head Coach Marc Wingell goes into his first full season at the club, and he has been busy bringing in some experienced players to Rosalie Park, including Floret Athena duo Phil Arnold and Filip Minic. The club were in the NPL in 2018, but have struggled, finishing in the bottom three ever since. The coach is hoping he has the right mix to turn their fortunes around, only time will tell.
Players In: Filip Minic (Floreat Athena), Henri Mulwilla, Alex (SPAIN), Mustapha Mohamed (UAE), Martin Coghlin (Ireland), Marco Savic (Balga), Phil Arnold (Floreat Athena)
Players Out: Gavin Knight
Skipper: Phil Arnold
Young Player to Watch: Kaleb Morrison – The youngster is learning and developing well
UWA-NEDLANDS FC
UWA Sports Park, Shenton Park
President: Mrs Alexandria Lyons
Coach: Richard Abrams
2023: 10th
Goals scored: 30
Goals conceded: 51
Top Goalscorer: Luke Salas 5
It was a disappointing season at UWA Nedlands, the club finishing tenth, and they were in the relegation playoff spot in the final game of the season, but a late winner against MUMFC, and Subiaco losing at home to Gosnells, saw them survive. Richard Abrams goes into his second season at the club, and he has been busy, strengthening his squad. He has brought in a number of imports, while Noah Kanzi, Seb Hooshanigan and Lewis Robertson are all experienced in state league football and will help up front, after they only scored 31 goals last season, the second worst in the league. The additions are impressive, and a good night series, where they went through unbeaten, shows they are on the right track.
Players In: Tadgh O’Malley (Salthill Devon, Ireland), Seb Hooshanigan (Inglewood United), Gianmarco Mazzei (unattached, Italy), Daniel Iluiano (Perth SC), Max Blackshaw (Perth SC), Sam Ince (Frenford FC, UK), Jack Hilaire (Woodford Town, UK), Jed Afenyo (Swindon Town, UK), Rohan Goulebourne (Toronto FC, Canada), Joe Roscoe, Christophe Yao, Oli Lebihan, Elmar Dzamastagic (all Perth SC – loan), Giancarlo Canobbio (AFC Bucklands, New Zealand), Harry Ford (Newton Abott Spurs, UK), Noah Kanzi (Kingsway Olympic), Leonard Gama (Unattached), Louis Carlish (Joondalup City), Lewis Robinson (Gwelup Croatia)
Players Out: Cody Tana (Aglianese Giovanili, Italy), Will Higginson (Canning City), Noal Disha (Joondalup City), Harvey Carew, Thomas Moroney, Alex Pietrionero, Samual Moffet, Amin Ahmed, Pascal Gioffre, Max Thorniley (All Released)
Skipper: Adam Falcone
Young Player to Watch: Jack Hilaire – He has been hugely impressive so far since arriving from the UK, and at 18 is a big talent and one to keep an eye on. Youngsters Sam Ince (19), Joe Roscoe (18), Oli Lebihan (18), Christophe Yeo (18), Jed Afenyo (18), Dan iuliano (18), Elmar Dzamastagic (18) have all impressed in preseason and with Max Blackshaw (19) returning to the club, the future looks bright in terms of a youthful UWA lineup for 2024.

ASHFIELD
Paintseal Arena, Ashfield
President: Mr Phil Kelly
Coach: James Sammut
2023: 7th
Goals scored: 38
Goals conceded: 39
Top Goalscorer: Gareth Hamilton 12
James Sammut will go into his first full season as head coach at Ashfield, and he will be looking to improve their seventh placed finish last season. The player/coach took over from Greg Hart last season, and they were in the promotion playoff mix late in the season, but they went on to win only one game in their last five games, which saw them miss out. The club have added some quality to last season seasons squad, the likes of Charlie Watt and Riley Stephenson. They started the night series well, with a big win in the opening game against Kingsley, but back-to-back defeats saw them miss out on a quarter-final spot. Sammut will have his side playing good football, but do they have the depth to challenge, we will have to wait and see.
Players In: Riley Stephenson, Derrick Data, Ethan Kerridge, Luca Macri, Anthony Orobio, Charlie Watt
Players Out: Isak Hakeem, Lal Bik Cung, Nashe Kuzamba, Anthony Mihalj
Skipper: Jake Melia
Young Player to Watch: Ravi Singh - The youngster has put in the work over the off-season and it has shown during preseason. He has the ability to change games and the club are looking forward to see how he goes this season.
BALGA
Princess Road Reserve, Balga
President: Mr Ken Shorto
Coach: Gerhard Janssen
2023: 10th
Goals scored: 21
Goals conceded: 51
Top Goalscorer: Nathan Scully 5
Balga finished a disappointing tenth place last season, and head coach Gerhard Janssen will be looking for an improvement in 2024. Only one win in the opening six games, set the tone for the season for the club, and they only won three more games. Their problem was there for all to see, up front, only scoring 21 goals, which was the lowest in the league, but the coach has brought in some strikers in over the off season, as they look to rectify that problem. Janssen goes into his fourth season at the club, and they have the players to improve, with Nathan Scully and skipper Bleron Mamudi vital, but will need to improve their away form, after not winning any games on the road last season.
Players In: Alessio Meschi, Cian Guest, Pablo Vargas, Mark Bauersachs, Valentin Dosiere, Luke Christie, Christian Vest, Albert Mombo, Stefan Poposki, Domenico Salvodelli, Galey Zangpo, Mwanza Steven Musonda, Ricky Nyersh, Christian Lenz.
Players Out: Aidan Holloway, Rami Boqari, Sam Losondo, Henry Wilkinson, Amos Gama, Jimmy Taban, Henri Mulwilla, Lucas Goebel
Skipper: Bleron Mamudi
Young Player to Watch: Luke Christie. He has returned to Balga after two years in Division One with Fremantle and Rockingham and promotion into NPL. Luke wants to achieve his breakthrough as a senior player - although only 20 years old, but in his fifth year as a senior football player. I have known Luke as a Junior player and know he needs to enjoy his game to perform and demonstrate his unquestionable great abilities! It will be my task to instil the confidence into the young man to show the league what an outstanding Western Australian talent he is!
CANNING CITY
Burrendah Reserve, Willetton
President: Mr Jeff Rowlands
Coach: Lee Hayward
2023: 11th
Goals scored: 22
Goals conceded: 57
Top Goalscorer: Rowan Steed 12
It’s all change at Canning City this season, with Lee Hayward taking over the coaching role from Jude Peppin, and there has been a huge turnover of players. Last season was disappointing, finishing 11th and they would have been relegated if Morley weren’t docked points. They only won three games last season, which continued a run of finishing in the bottom two for the last three seasons. The night series showed the improvement under the new coach, drawing the opening games against Rockingham and Kalamunda, and a narrow defeat against Mandurah. It’s a new side this season, and if they can gel quickly, Hayward’s side will surprise a few sides.
Players In: Alex Guzman (Fremantle City), Alpha Sheriff (Maddington White City), Andrew Craggs (MUM FC), Anthony Taranto (Fremantle City), Bill Orr (Fremantle City), Callum Sheppard (Fremantle City), Claudio Roque Cruz (Fremantle City), Damon Brun (Fremantle City), Domenic Mann, Ethan Gran (Fremantle City), Freeman Nyatsambo (Forrestfield United), Gavin Walker (South Perth United), Hayden Collett (Fremantle City), Ishmael Greywood (Kelmscott Roos), Jerome West (Fremantle City), Jordan Jones (Gosnells), Josh Wallhead (Curtin University), Lachlan Greenshields (MuM FC), Mason Langham (South Perth United), Mustefa Al-Asadi (Forrestfield United), Nicholas Fox (South Perth United), Shale Moothen (Fremantle City), Tom Kinnane (Fremantle City), Tom Skuse (Rockingham City), William Higginson (UWA)
Players Out: Abel James, Alec Radonich (Rockingham City), Alex Hendricks, Charlie Watt, Darsi Mukunzi (Fremantle City), Delan De Silva, Jason Peppin (Gosnells City), Jeronimo Mottin (Maddington), Julian Nardi, Kai Sheng Kong (Morley Windmills), Karar Al-Asadi (Maddington), Killian Piriou, Manoj Bhandari (Morley Windmills), Rowan Steed (Curtin University), Sabin Shrestha, Samuel Samulela, Shawn Peppin (Gosnells City), Suyash Vasist, William Jacobz (Morley Windmills)
Skipper: Mason Langham
Young Player to Watch: The club have a lot of good young players around the 20, 21 mark and are probably one of the youngest teams in the league. Bill Orr scored the final goal that put Fremantle up to the NPL, Freeman Nyatsambo has scored goals at NPL and State level, Tom Kinnane has looked really sharp in preseason. However, my watch out for the upcoming season is Anthony Taranto, only a small figure, he doesn’t stop battling in the middle of the park and has pin point accuracy from set pieces is top class.
CARRAMAR SHAMROCK ROVERS
Grandis Park, Banksia Grove
President: Mr Marty Burke
Coach: Gerry McEwan
2023: 5th
Goals scored: 37
Goals conceded: 33
Top Goalscorer: Alan Reidy 7
Last season was another near miss for Carramar Shamrock Rovers, the fifth-place finish saw them just miss out on a play-off spot. They have been there or thereabout since the merger between the two clubs, and last season losing their last two games saw them miss out. Head coach Gerry McEwan goes into his eighth season at the club, and he has kept most of last season’s squad, but has added a few, the likes of Jakeb Seppings and Jaydan Licastro to bolster the squad. It wasn’t a good night series, not winning a game, and one area they need to improve this season, is in front of goal, scoring only 37 goals, which was the worst in the top eight. So is this the year they get promotion, we will have to wait and see.
Players In: Jakeb Seppings, Jaydan Licastro, Warren Wadawu, Felipe Verdugo, Daniel Airns
Players Out: Tom Forbes, Callum Trayner, Chris Pugh
Skipper: Kieran Harrison.
Young Player to Watch: We have a number of young players from our successful under 18 & u16 squads of 2023 who are already an integral part of our first team squad, so I wouldn't like to single one out from Zac Dixon, Sam Lawless, Eden Pyle, Louie Martin and Thomas Eddie.
CURTIN UNIVERSITY
Edinburgh Oval, Bentley
President: Mr Payam Golestanibr>
Coach: Troy Reid
202: 3rd
Goals scored: 48
Goals conceded: 28
Top Goalscorer: Kieran Witt 13
Curtin University finished third last season, and reached the promotion play off final, but they were beaten by Subiaco to miss out. Troy Reid goes into his fourth season as coach at the club, and last season was built on a strong defence, conceding only 25 goals, the least in the league, and they have improved their finishing position each year under the tutelage of Reid. The club have a number of talented youngsters, but they have added some new signing, the likes of Rowan Steed and Daniel Nocciolino, and many have them in the mix for promotion again. A good night series, which saw them reach the knockout stage, before losing to Mandurah, shows they heading in the right direction.
Players In: Rowan Steed, Mighael Muller, Louis Johannes, Aaron Hinshelwood, Kevin Beattie, Daniel Nocciolino, Alastair Hall
Players Out: Oscar Wright, Ali Akbarzadeh, Oliver Robertson
Skipper: Jeffrey Ledwith
Young Player to Watch: Dylan Kelly. Having been at Curtin since the age of 5 and having a strong season with the Reserves last season, Dylan has been promoted to the First Team squad. His movement and eye for goal makes him a valuable addition to the squad and I’m excited to see him rise to the challenge of First Team football.
EAST PERTH
Hudson Park, Girrawheen
President: Mr Chris Lynch
Coach: Colm Costello
2023: 2nd - Amateur Premier Division - promoted
Goals scored: 50
Goals conceded: 17
Top Goalscorer - Ryan McCready 11
East Perth will play state league football for the first time in the club’s history, after promotion from the Amateur Premier League last season, which is a great achievement from a club that was only formed in 2013. They were offered a place in the state league after champions Emerald declined, and they have been working hard to strengthen the squad, bringing in a number of imports, also signing locals Migue Oliveira, Shane Doherty and Julian Bian. They had the best defence in the league last season, only conceding 17 goals, and coach Colm Costello will be looking for more of the same in 2024, and after a good night series things are looking good, and they will be very competitive this season.
Players In: Sean Hyland (Sacred Heart/Firhouse Clover, Ireland), Ryan Doherty (Buncrana Hearts, Ireland), Shane Doherty (Carramar Rovers), Gavin Dillon (Aisling Annacotty, Ireland), Ryan McCormack (Mullingar Athletic, Ireland), Kris Cowen (Warrenpoint Town, Ireland), Liam Moore (Arklow Town, Ireland), Miguel Oliveira (Kelmscott Roos), Julian Bian (Wanneroo)
Players Out: Oscar Kelly (North Perth), Craig Howie (Clyde FC, Scotland)
Skipper: Chris Smith
Young Player to Watch: We have a few good young lads that have joined us this year and it’s exactly what was needed to improve the squad. Thankfully we kept nearly all the lads from last year, so keeping the core lads from last year was huge and we are looking forward to the weekly challenge ahead.
FORRESTFIELD UNITED
Crazy Domain Stadium, Hartfield Park, Forrestfield
President: Mr Paul Mansfield
Coach: Daryl Platten and Paul Oliver
2023: 12th - Division One - relegated
Goals scored: 21
Goals conceded: 51
Top Goalscorer: Mohammad Rezai 5
Forrestfield United had a season to forget in 2023, finishing bottom of Division One with only eight points and relegated to Division Two, for the first time since 2015. They only won one game for the season, and the club have turned to Daryl Platten and his assistant Paul Oliver to turn things around. They lost a number of players in the off season, but the new coaching duo have brought a number of experienced players in to replace them, the like of Shaydon Passalaqua, Sherwin Tucker and Alec Robinson, while Mitch Crocker has returned. They are looking for a quick return to Division One, but they lost the opening night series games this season, but a win against Ashfield in the final game was important, and they hope to build on that.
Players In: Alec Robinson, Connor Boland, Sherwin Tucker, Shaydon Passalaqua, Caleb Sheedy, James Oliver, Mitch Crocker, John Philippidis, Mohamad Al Bunajim
Players Out: Scott Barker, Faiz Nasiri, Ibrahim Bilal, Owen Yamungu, Moses McCauley, Oliver Naughton, Tahir Rezai, Ali Nazary, Nick Stone, Jason Pottier
Skipper: Josh Gardner
Young Player to Watch: Forrestfield have always developed top talent and we have many on our books right now. I find it hard to split Noah Appleby and Austin Reynolds, both of which have very bright futures. Both have come up through the ranks at the club. Noah is 20 years old and has been promoted to vice captain this season. He is an industrious box-to-box midfielder that just oozes class. Austin won the Under 18 Division One player of the year last season and has been promoted to the first team squad. A player that performs at a level well beyond his years and has had a stellar preseason. An energetic and creative midfielder that has an eye for goal.
JOONDALUP CITY
Iluka Sports Complex, Iluka
President: Mr Steve Amphlett
Coach: Guy McDonald
2023: 8th
Goals scored: 38
Goals conceded: 46
Top Goalscorer: Jason Petrie 8
It’s all change at Joondalup City on and off the park, with Steve Amphlett becoming President, while Guy McDonald takes over the coaching role. The club finished eighth last season, and defensively they need to tighten up, after conceding 46 goals, and McDonald has brought in a number of players to do that, Joel Ledsham, Theo Gilsenan and Brad McDonald to name a few. City were impressive in the night series, reaching the quarter-finals, before losing to eventual winners Sorrento on penalties, so the signs are good, and they will be the big improvers this season.
Players In: Joel Ledsham, Theo Gilsenan, Dan Pierara, Brad McDonald, Eddie Wilcock, Noel Disha, Harry Edwards, Mason Gallagher, Lucas Reid, Callum Stocks, Thomas Hunt, Emmanuel Emefieli
Players Out: N/A
Skipper: Liam Peacock
Young Player to Watch: Mason Gallagher and Eddie Wilcock - Two exciting wingers with plenty of talent that have the ability to win football matches.
KALAMUNDA CITY
Maida Vale Recreation Reserve, Maida Vale
President: N/A
Coach: German Montealegre Quijano
2023: 2nd
Goals scored: 48
Goals conceded: 28
Top Goalscorer: Samir Ramos 12
Kalamunda City pushed Kingsley all the way in the Division two title race, but German Montealegre Quijano’s side fell just short, before bowing out in the playoff semifinal against Curtin. It was a poor start to the season for the club, not winning in their first four games, but they improved, and went on a good run, only losing once in next nine games. Samir Ramos was their top goalscorer, as they scored 48 goals, which was the third best in the league. No information sent by the club .

QUINNS FC
Gumblossom Park, Quinns Rock
President: Mr Vincent McMillan
Coach: Antony Benetti
2023: 9th
Goals scored: 26
Goals conceded: 52
Top Goalscorer: Tyler Holden 6
Antony Benetti goes into his first full season at Quinns, and the Gumblossom Park club will look to improve on their ninth placed finish last season. They had a poor start to 2023, not winning in their first five games, and they were in the relegation mix late in the season, but they rallied late to claim important draws against Ashfield, Kalamunda and in the final game against Canning to seal their safety. The coach has been busy in the transfer market, adding the likes of Magai Deng, Matt Cherries and Jason Petrie, to name a few. The night series showed they will be stronger in 2024, but do they have the depth to challenge, we will have to wait and see.
Players In: - Magai Deng, Mou Marial, Jerry Legrand, Tanaka Muambe, Bobby Knight, Cole Hadfield, Matt Cherrie, Jason Petrie, Callum Speed
Players Out: - Tyler Holden, Robbie McNeill, Harry Edwards, Mason Gallagher, Danny O'Shea, Jakeb Seppings, Lukas De Lima
Skipper: Matt Cherrie
Young Player to Watch: We've got a lot of good young players we were able to retain as well as bring in. As a club we are extremely excited to see the boys develop week in week out.
SWAN UNITED
Swan Italian Club, Francis Street, Middle Swan
President: Mrs Silvana Anderson
Coach: Niall Hughes and Colin Morgan
2023: 4th
Goals scored: 50
Goals conceded: 35
Top Goalscorer: Rhys Loxley 17
The Swans again missed out on promotion in the playoffs, losing the semi-final to Subiaco. The club will be looking to rebuild this season with a number of players leaving Francis Street, including John Monterosso, Rhys Loxley and James Owen. They started 2023 well, unbeaten in the opening five games, eventually finishing fourth, but it could have been better, drawing five games that hurt them. They were the second highest scorers in the league with 50 goals, but conceded 35, which was the worst in the top five. Coaches Niall Hughes and Colin Morgan have added a number of players, including James Duncan, Ben Greaves and Josh Appleby, to name a few, as they look to return to Division Onne for he first time since 2021.
Players In: Josh Appleby, James Duncan, Luke Ross, Ben Greaves, Patrick Shortall, Aiden Denny, Kai Savy, Vlad Puia, Juan Jaimes, Amro Atta, James Smith.
Players Out: John Monterosso, Tom Black, Rhys Loxley, James Owen, Jacob Stubberfield, Oluwasijibomi Adeniyi
Skipper: Mike Yarker
Young Player to Watch: Patrick Shortall - A young midfielder who joined in the summer, who has continually impressed in preseason despite his age. Stepping up to first team level for the first time. He is a player who has plenty of technical ability and energy to go from box to box. We have high hopes for him in the future.
WANNEROO CITY
Players Place, Kingsway Reserve, Landsdale
President: Mr Dean Bell
Coach: Howard Tweats
2023: 6th
Goals scored: 38
Goals conceded: 38
Top Goalscorer: Dion Berman 13
Howard Tweats goes into his third season at Wanneroo City, and last season’s sixth placed finish was a huge improvement on 2022, when they only just missed out on relegation. It could have been better, they were in the playoff places early in the season, but they fell away late, winning only twice in the final 11 games. They only scored 38 goals last season, which they need to improve, but the coach will have plenty of firepower up front this season, with Asa Sippits and Boas Mtwale joining Ben Wantee, while keeper Jordan Barbas has also been recruited. Is this the year that get promoted back to Division One for the first time since 2014, we will have to wait and see.
Players In: Jordan Barbas, Nicholas Dossena, K. Finch, B. Koloski, Aleks Lazov, Boas Mtwale, M. Rossi, Jordan Rowe, Calvin Scolin, Asa Sippits, B. Wright
Players Out: Dion Berman, Conor Dolan, Jaydan Licastro, Mella Loding, Keylun Pollard, Oliver Rigler, Higor Vitali, Sven Waldmeier
Skipper: Aaron Louttit
Young Player to Watch: Robbie Sallis - After a breakthrough season expecting a standout season from the youngster, with the benefit of experience players to school around him, expect the centre back to mature and be a big contributor to our season’s direction.

The 2024 Belt-Up Amateur Premier Division will be another tight season, with a number of sides looking to take the next step to play State League football. Last season Emerald FC sealed the title on the final day, but decided not to take promotion, and it was East Perth who were promoted to State League Division Two.
Emerald will once again be the side to beat, and they will have a new coach this season with Shane Dineen taking over from Shane O’Donovan. They were the standout team in 2023 scoring 56 goals, the best in the league, and they will be one of the teams to watch.
Kelmscott Roos will also be one of the favourites for the title, the Fyre Park club slipped out of the state league in 2021, and have been so close to return in the last two season, will this be third time lucky. North Perth United also have a new coach with Chris Holland taking over from Alex Carter, and the Woodville Reserve club have added some experienced players to their squad, and will amongst the leading pack.
We have three new faces in the league this season with Kingsley Westside and Maccabi promoted, with Kwinana United and South West Phoenix relegated, while Morley Windmills were relegated from the state league. John O’Reilly and Dan Evans have been given the responsibility of getting the Wotton Reserve club straight back up, but it won’t be easy, with a number of teams impressing last season. The likes of Jaguar and Wembley Downs, who both reached the Night series Final, also North Beach, Wembley Downs and South Perth United will be looking for a repeat of last season.
Joondalup United and Peel United both struggled last season but will look to rebound under new coaches, with Rob Gray taking over at Peel and Blaine Merredew at Joondalup. But if last season was anything to go by, 2024 will be another entertaining Amateur Premier Division, good luck to all sides.
